In the context of the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), which took place from 30 November to 12 December 2023 at Expo City in Dubai, the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy organized a series of specialized events at its pavilion.

 

 

In the context of the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), which took place from 30 November to 12 December 2023 at Expo City in Dubai, the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy organized a series of specialized events at its pavilion.

On Monday, December 4, the emphasis was on "The Greek initiative at UN level for the protection of cultural and natural heritage from the impacts of climate change: existing situation and next steps"

The event hosted several esteemed personalities from global organizations and presented successful initiatives that have proven effective in enhancing the protection and resilience of cultural heritage worldwide, promoting the exchange of good practices and experiences in the context of the circular and digital economy.

Dr Evangelos Gerasopoulos, Director of the Institute for Environmental Research and Sustainable Development of the National Observatory of Athens, and Director of the Greek GEO Office, performed the final presentation at the event, delivering an update on the Flexible Mechanism Survey with respect to climate induced threats on cultural heritage monuments and talked about the Urban Heritage Climate Observatory (UHCO), an Initiative within the frame of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO).
